Medicine Reminders for Parents Who Don't Use Apps

The short answer
If your parents are not comfortable with apps, they do not need one: mydawAI sends their medicine reminders on WhatsApp with a single Taken button, in Hindi or English. You set everything up from your phone, and you are alerted if they miss a dose.
How can elderly parents get medicine reminders without learning a new app?
With mydawAI, your parents only need WhatsApp and one tap. You set up their medicines from your own phone, and their reminders arrive as ordinary WhatsApp messages with a single Taken button.
Many parents in India use WhatsApp every day for family photos, good morning messages and video calls. But a new app with a login, settings and notifications is a different matter. They forget the password, the app stops sending alerts after an update, or it simply sits unopened. mydawAI avoids all of that.
What do my parents need to do?
Just two things: agree to the reminders once, and tap Taken when they have had a dose.
- You add them to your mydawAI Care Circle with their WhatsApp number.
- They get a WhatsApp message asking if they want reminders from you. They tap to agree.
- At each dose time, they receive a message naming the medicine and dose, with a Taken button.
- They tap Taken. Done.
There is no account for them to create, no password to remember and nothing to install.
What do I need to do as the son or daughter?
You do the setup once, from anywhere. Sign up at app.mydawai.in, add your parents, and add their medicines.
- Photograph their prescription or upload the PDF, and mydawAI reads the medicines.
- Or send a voice note in Hindi or English listing what they take.
- Or type them in.
mydawAI asks follow-up questions for anything missing, like a time, and you review everything before it is saved. Read prescription photo to medicine reminders for how the reading works.
Can the reminders be in Hindi?
Yes. Each person in mydawAI has their own language, English or Hindi. Your father can get his reminders in Hindi while yours stay in English. Chintu, the mydawAI koala, also replies in their language if they message on WhatsApp.
What if they forget to tap Taken?
mydawAI can remind them again and then alert you on WhatsApp. You choose the gap between retries and how many to send. If there is still no Taken, you get a message so you can call.
This turns worry into a simple signal. On good days you hear nothing. On a missed day, you know straight away. See missed-dose alerts for caregivers.
What if they tap Taken by mistake too early?
A dose can only be marked taken from 30 minutes before its time, and only on its own day. That keeps the record meaningful and avoids someone tapping all of today's reminders at once in the morning.
Will they run out of medicine?
mydawAI tracks the stock and warns you before it runs out. Every Taken tap lowers the count. With auto-refill on, Chintu asks you on WhatsApp first, and only when you reply yes is the order sent to their local chemist on WhatsApp, with the prescription. You arrange payment and pickup with the chemist directly. Many families already have a chemist who knows their parents by name, and mydawAI works with that relationship. Read refill medicines from your local pharmacy.
Can my parents ask questions?
Yes. They can message Chintu on WhatsApp, for example "aaj raat kaunsi dawai hai?" Chintu answers from their own list. A family member chatting from their own number can ask but cannot change their medicines; changes stay with you, the account holder.
Chintu shares only general, well-established information about the medicines on their list. It never diagnoses and never changes a dose. For anything worrying, they should call their doctor, or 112 in an emergency.
Tips for setting this up with your parents
Explain it in person or on a video call, and keep it simple.
- Tell them the message will come from mydawAI and what it will look like.
- Show them the Taken button once.
- Agree what happens if they miss a dose: "you'll get one more reminder, then I'll get a message".
- Keep the pillbox or medicine basket near where they sit at dose times.
