Missed Dose Alerts for Caregivers: How mydawAI Escalation Works
The mydawAI team · · 3 min read
The short answer
mydawAI's missed dose alerts let a caregiver know when a family member has not taken a dose. It first resends the WhatsApp reminder at an interval you choose, and only after the retries run out does it alert you, once per dose.
What is a missed dose alert?
A missed dose alert is a message to the caregiver when the person taking the medicine has not confirmed a dose. In mydawAI, it arrives on your WhatsApp after the reminder has been retried and is still not marked Taken.
The aim is simple: you should not have to call every morning to check. You should only hear about the doses that need you.
How does mydawAI escalation work, step by step?
Escalation runs per family member and per dose. You turn it on for someone in Care Circle, set a retry interval and a number of retries, and mydawAI does the rest.
- At dose time, your family member gets a WhatsApp reminder with a Taken button.
- If they do not tap Taken within your chosen interval, mydawAI resends the reminder.
- This repeats until the number of retries you set has been used.
- If the dose is still untaken, you get a caretaker alert on WhatsApp.
- That is the end for that dose. You get one alert per dose, never a flood.
| Setting | What it controls | Range |
|---|---|---|
| Escalation on or off | Whether follow ups happen for this person | Per family member |
| Retry interval | Minutes between resends | 1 to 180 minutes |
| Max retries | Resends before you are alerted | 1 to 10 |
What if my parent taps Taken on an older reminder?
It still counts. mydawAI remembers every reminder message it sent for a dose, so a tap on the first message, a later one, or any copy marks the dose as taken and stops the escalation.
What if the reminder could not be delivered at all?
mydawAI treats that as a reason to follow up too. If a reminder fails to send, for example because of a phone problem, the retries still count down, and you are alerted when they run out. This is exactly the case where you most need to know.
Can I turn on alerts for myself?
No. Escalation is for family members in your Care Circle. Alerting you about your own missed dose would just be another reminder, so your own medicines use the normal reminder.
When should I use missed dose alerts?
Use them for anyone whose missed dose would worry you. Many caregivers turn them on for:
- Parents living alone or in another city
- Family members on time sensitive medicines their doctor has stressed
- Someone recovering after a hospital stay
- A family member with memory loss, see our guide on medicine management for memory loss
What should I do when I get an alert?
Call or message your family member and check in kindly. Do not guess about extra or doubled doses. If you are unsure whether to take a missed dose, ask the doctor or pharmacist, and for an emergency, call 112.
Chintu, the mydawAI koala, will never suggest an extra dose. That decision always belongs to a doctor.
Can a dose be marked taken late the next day?
No. A dose can only be marked taken on its own day, and from 30 minutes before its time. That keeps the history honest, so when you look back over a week you see what really happened.
Why mydawAI is the best missed dose alert app for Indian families
Reminders are only half the job. The other half is knowing when they did not work. mydawAI puts both on WhatsApp, in English or Hindi, with escalation you can tune per person. It also keeps count of stock and asks before refilling from your local pharmacy, so you can see the full picture in how Care Circle works.
