Medicine Reminder App With Family Alerts: mydawAI
The mydawAI team · · 3 min read
The short answer
mydawAI is a medicine reminder app with family alerts built in. Each family member gets reminders on their own WhatsApp with a Taken button, and if they do not respond, mydawAI retries and then alerts the caretaker on WhatsApp.
Is there a medicine reminder app that alerts family when a dose is missed?
Yes. mydawAI reminds each person on their own WhatsApp and alerts the caretaker when a dose is not marked Taken. It is designed for families where one person looks after the medicines of others.
A reminder on its own is only half the job. If your mother does not see the message, or sees it and gets distracted, a plain reminder app will never know, and neither will you. mydawAI closes that loop.
How do family alerts work in mydawAI?
Reminder first, retries next, caretaker alert last.
- At dose time, the family member gets a WhatsApp reminder with a Taken button.
- If they do not tap it, mydawAI sends the reminder again after the gap you chose.
- After the number of retries you set, if there is still no Taken, mydawAI sends you, the caretaker, a WhatsApp alert.
- You can then call them, or ask someone nearby to check.
You set the gap between retries and how many retries to send for each family member. Each missed dose triggers at most one caretaker alert, so you are informed without being flooded.
Who counts as family in mydawAI?
Anyone you add to your Care Circle: parents, grandparents, a partner, children, in-laws. There is no limit on how many people you can add.
Each person has their own medicines, times, language (English or Hindi) and WhatsApp number. Their reminders go to their own WhatsApp once they tap to agree. Until then, their reminders come to you, labelled with their name. More in the Care Circle guide.
Do family members need to install the app?
No. They only need WhatsApp. There is no account, password or download for them. They tap once to agree and then tap Taken on each reminder.
What does the caretaker see?
You see every family member's medicines and how each week went, all from your own account. The mydawAI web app shows who took what, what is coming up and which medicines are running low. You can add or change medicines for anyone in your Care Circle.
Chintu, the mydawAI koala, also answers your questions on WhatsApp, such as "what does Papa take tonight?", based on your family's medicine list.
Why is an alert better than checking in yourself?
Because it only interrupts you when something is actually wrong. Calling twice a day is tiring for you and can feel intrusive to them. With escalation, good days are quiet and you hear about a problem as soon as there is one.
| Calling to check | Plain reminder app | mydawAI with family alerts | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reminds them on their phone | No | Yes | Yes, on WhatsApp |
| Knows if the dose was taken | Only if you ask | Sometimes | Yes, Taken tap |
| Retries automatically | No | Rarely | Yes |
| Tells you on a miss | You find out yourself | No | Yes, WhatsApp alert |
| Effort for you | Daily calls | Setup | Set up once |
Does it also help with stock and refills?
Yes. mydawAI counts down every family member's stock with each Taken tap. When a medicine runs low and auto-refill is on, Chintu asks you on WhatsApp first. Only after you say yes is the order sent to your chosen local pharmacy on their WhatsApp, with the prescription, between 9 AM and 6 PM. See auto-refill medicines so you never run out.
Is family data kept private?
Yes. mydawAI encrypts medicine data at rest with AES-256 and hosts it on AWS in Mumbai. Each family member's chat with Chintu is kept separate, so one person does not see another's conversation. Data is never sold or used for ads.
