AI Health Assistant on WhatsApp: What Chintu Can and Can't Do
The mydawAI team · · 4 min read
The short answer
Chintu is the AI assistant inside mydawAI, available on WhatsApp by text or voice note and as a voice conversation in the mydawAI web app. It answers questions about your own medicines, makes changes after you confirm, and reads prescriptions, but it never diagnoses and never changes or approves a dose.
Who is Chintu?
Chintu is the friendly koala who lives inside mydawAI. It is an AI assistant designed for one thing above all: helping you and your family stay on top of your medicines.
You can talk to Chintu on WhatsApp, by typing or sending a voice note, and inside the mydawAI web app as a spoken conversation. It speaks English and Hindi, and each family member can have their own language.
What can Chintu do?
Chintu works from your own medicine list, so its answers are about you, not generic internet advice.
- Answer schedule questions: "What do I take after dinner?" "When is my next dose?"
- Tell you how your week went: which doses were taken and which were missed.
- Mark a dose taken: say "I took my Metformin" and today's due dose is recorded.
- Make changes, with your confirmation: add a medicine, change its time or dose as prescribed, or stop it. Chintu shows a summary and waits for you to tap Confirm.
- Read a prescription: send a photo or PDF on WhatsApp and Chintu lists the medicines, asks about anything unclear, and saves only after you review it.
- Set up refills: turn on auto-refill or order a refill from a saved pharmacy, again with a Confirm step.
- Share general information about medicines on your list: what they are commonly used for, common side effects, food instructions, and the general missed-dose rule.
- Just talk: if you are having a hard day, Chintu listens like a friend.
What will Chintu never do?
Some lines are fixed in code, not left to the AI's judgement.
| Chintu will | Chintu will never |
|---|---|
| Explain your schedule | Diagnose an illness |
| Share general medicine information | Change or approve a dose |
| Make changes after you confirm | Act without your Confirm |
| Listen when you feel low | Act as a therapist or doctor |
| Point you to real help in a crisis | Handle an emergency itself |
If you ask whether you can take an extra tablet, or what is causing a symptom, Chintu politely declines and asks you to speak to your doctor or pharmacist.
What happens if someone mentions an emergency?
Messages that sound like a crisis, such as a medical emergency or thoughts of self-harm, get a fixed, careful reply that points to real help, such as your doctor or emergency services on 112. This safety reply is built in, so it works even if the AI itself is unavailable.
How does Chintu protect family members?
When a family member in your Care Circle asks Chintu a medical question it cannot answer, Chintu tells them to check with you or their doctor, and alerts you, the caretaker, so a real person can follow up. Family members chatting from their own number can ask about their own medicines but cannot change anything; only the account holder can.
Each person's chats and memory are kept separate. Your mother's questions are not mixed with yours.
Can I talk to Chintu by voice?
Yes, in two ways. On WhatsApp, send a voice note in English or Hindi and Chintu replies in text. In the mydawAI web app, tap the koala to have a real spoken conversation, with a choice of a female or male voice. You can interrupt it naturally, just like talking to a person.
Is my data safe with Chintu?
Your medicine details, chats and uploads are encrypted at rest with AES-256 and hosted on AWS in Mumbai. mydawAI does not sell your data or use it for advertising. The AI processes your messages only to answer you.
Are there any limits?
During beta there is a daily chat message limit per person to keep the service sustainable. Your medicine reminders are never affected by it; they always go out on time.
Why an AI assistant on WhatsApp beats a search engine
Search results know nothing about your prescription. Chintu does. It knows which medicines are yours, when you take them and whether you took them today, and it answers in the language you are comfortable with, right in the app you already use.
